In this review, we summarized the progress in the use of GPC3 as a target for HCC therapy. Though GPC3 protein expression is strongly correlated with the aggressive malignant biological behaviors of HCC, its tumorigenic effect is not clear. HCC cells with lower GPC3 expression have been found to be more sensitive to TGFβ induced growth suppression.
